The following steps will take you through the process of a Bun using Hare Do.

Misting the Hair

Mist the hair with water, apply more to the ends.

Comb the hair smooth.

Extend the Hare Do lengthwise and slide the excess fabric (equally) to both ends forming rosettes.

Tips:

When first practicing, bobby pins help eliminate droops and sags along the sides.
Always bobby pin layers Hare Do and flyaway hair.

Slide the Hare Do under the hair and hold the rosette ends in both hands.

Dominant Hand Instructions

Dominant Hand Instructions:

The instructions below are written for a left handed person.
Reverse the hands in the following steps below if you are right handed.

Fold the Hare Do in half and lay the two rosettes on top of each another (evenly) at the right side of the head.

The left hand holds the rosette end at this side of the head as the other hand combs the droopy hair smooth between the two strands.

The dominant hand (left or right) provides a better grip to twist the folded end.

Left-Handed:

The folded end will be held with this hand.
Your right hand grips the rosette end.

Right-Handed:

The folded end is held with the right hand.
The left hand grips the rosette end.

Grasp the folded and rosette ends in each hand placing the Hare Do's strands against the nape of the neck.

Tip:

Make sure the hair lays smooth between the strands before starting.

Two-Handed Twist

Two-Handed Twist

Both hands twist the folded and rosette ends in the same direction (underhand) 1 time clamping the hair.

Twisting Directions:

Folded End:

Form a loop (hole). The thumb pushes the bottom of the loop as the index finger pulls the top open.

Rosette End:

The thumb pushes the bottom rosette as the index fingertip pulls the top rosette forming a handle to twist.

Tip:

Always grip the Hare Do at these two ends.

Re-Twist the Rosettes

Re-twist the folded and rosette ends in the same direction (underhand) 1 time again.

Re-Twisting Directions:

Folded End:

The middle fingertip holds and pulls the top of the loop.
Move the thumb pushing the bottom of the loop as the index fingertip pulls the top loop open again.

Rosette End:

The middle fingertip holds and pulls the top rosette.
Move the thumb pushing the bottom rosette as the index fingertip pulls the top rosette again.

Tips:

The two ends make handles to easily twist.
Twisting with three fingers takes practice.

Both hands slide the two ends away from the head (outward).

Hair Length Outward Direction
Short (5" or less) straight down (floor)
Middle of neck down
Lower neck down / back
Shoulder blade back (slight angle down)
Middle of back straight back
Waist or longer straight upward (ceiling)
Layered straight upward (ceiling)

Important:

As you slide, maintain tension on the hair by twisting both ends (underhand) one-eighth of a turn.

Slide the Hare Do as low as you can reach (down and back).

Tips:

The higher you lift the hair (upward) the weight of the hair has a tendency to sag.
Form a ponytail first to slide upward.

Keep Sliding

Keep sliding both ends away from the head (outward).

Important:

As you slide, maintain tension on the hair by twisting both ends (underhand) one-eighth of a turn.

Slide the Hare Do as low as you can reach (down and back).

Slide to a Stop

Slide to a Stop

Keep sliding and STOP with a quarter of a twist at halfway to three-quarters of the hair length.

Hair Length Outward Direction
Short (5" or less) 2" from end
Middle of neck 2" to 4" from end
Lower neck 1/4 from end
Shoulder blade 1/4 from end
Middle of back 1/2 from end
Waist or longer 1/2 from end
Layered shortest layer

Important:

Both hands twist the folded and rosette ends in the same direction (underhand) 1 time rolling the hair.

Twisting Directions:

Folded End:

Move the thumb pushing the bottom of the loop as the index fingertip pulls the top loop open again.

Rosette End:

The middle fingertip holds and pulls the top rosette.
Move the thumb pushing the bottom rosette as the index fingertip pulls the top rosette again.

Important:

As you twist, gently pull back on the hair applying tension for a smooth hair roll.

As you twist, pull back on the hair applying tension for a smooth hair roll.

Let's Twist Again!

Re-twist both ends in the same direction (underhand).

Important:

As you twist, pull back on the hair applying tension for a smooth hair roll.

Tips:

Thin and medium weight hair is easier to roll.
Thick hair is simplified if half of the hair weight is rolled (see, Bun with Release, Double Bun or Ponytail Bun).

Twist Till You're Tight

Twist Tight

Keep twisting both ends and STOP when the hair is rolled tight against the back of the head.

Short (5" or less) 2 to 3
Middle of neck 3 to 4
Lower neck 4 to 5
Shoulder blade 5 to 6
Middle of back 6 to 9
Waist or longer 9 to 12
Layered 5 to 10

Important:

One to three extra twists for a more firm roll. (personal preference)
Three extra twists for thick heavy hair.
If eck hair is pulling unroll the hair just one-half twist.

Lift the Ends

Both hands lift the Hare Do ends up and around in a circular motion on the backside of the head.

Lay Down That Rosette

Lay Down the Rosette

Lay the rosette end against the hair with the folded end crossing on top of it forming an "X".

Hang On!

Hang On!

Don't let Go!

The left hand fingertips and thumb hold the crossed Hare Do strands (as one).

Recommended:

Short unrolled hair sticks out through the Bun.

Gather the hair with your fingers and place behind the "X" (hold as one).
It easier to tuck them in now than later.

Right-Hand Bend

Right-Hand Bend

The right hand bends the tip of the folded end toward the head pushing it up through and wrapping all the way around the crossed strands.

Important:

Pinch the tip against the strands locking the Bun in place.
The folded end forms a knot that holds and supports the Bun.

Amazing:

Let go and give your hands a break!

Hold That Bun!

Hold That Bun!

Hold the Bun steady as you untwist the two rosettes to straighten them.

This procedure above forms antennas or rabbit ears that gave me the product name Hare Do.

Keep Holding On!

Hold the Bun steady as you roll the tip of the right rosette in a tight ball towards the Bun.

Finish Rolling

Finish Rolling

Finish rolling the right rosette tip in a tight ball covering the top of the Bun.

Hold On Once More

Hold On Once More

Hold the Bun steady as you roll the tip of the left rosette in a tight ball towards the Bun.

Time to Start the Finish

Start the Finish

Finish rolling the the left rosette tip in a tight ball covering the top of the Bun.

Important:

The rosette's form a decorative bow on top of the Bun and conceals the knot.

Reposition The Cover

Reposition the Cover

Reposition the bow covering the knot that holds and supports the Bun.

Tuck Short-Flyaway Hair

Tuck Short-Flyaway Hair

Tuck short-flyaway and droopy-hair up underneath the Bun.

Optional:

Bobby pins, butterfly clips and hair pins clasp uncontrollable hair.
Conceal the bobby pins by sliding up underneath the Bun.

Tip:

If unrolled hair sticks out under the Bun, tuck and push the hair up underneath the Bun.

Finalize the Position

Finalize the Position

Reposition the bow on top of the Bun.

Tip:

Hair spray or styling gel works great for a final touch.

You're Done!
